“Sail up the wild West Coast and run to the summits of Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis, the highest peaks of Wales, England & Scotland. A classic adventure race for teams of runners and sailors, since 1977.” www.threepeaksyachtrace.co.uk
When we were approached by our ambassador Traharn Chidley to kit out her and her team in the Three Peaks Yacht Race we couldn’t resist, it sounds like a fantastic adventure of a challenge, uniquely combining sailing, running and cycling.
Setting off from Barmouth, Wales, the team of 5 will sail up to finish at Fort William, Scotland. On the way, two of the crew are required to climb each of the highest mountains in Wales, England and Scotland - Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis which is the equivalent of three marathons in 3 or 4 days!
Joining Traharn for this multi-sport endurance race is Dee Caffari MBE, the first woman to have sailed single-handedly and non-stop around the world in both directions, Libby Greenhalgh , expert meteorologist and Volvo Ocean Race navigator and skilled ultra-runners and cyclists Rob Barnes and Matt Hinge.
Dee Caffari is a longstanding patron for Sail 4 Cancer which is the charity the team will be raising funds for in this challenge. Sail 4 Cancer help give much-needed respite breaks to UK families affected by cancer. The team are aiming to raise £10,000 to provide 10 more families with a break this year.We have kitted the team out with our waterproof kit necessities including the Ultra Grip Glove range, Waterproof Beanies and Mid Weight Mid Length Socks meaning they are ready for whatever the elements throw at them.
The Three Peaks Yacht Race starts this Saturday (11th June) at 1400hrs local time (BST) and we wish the team the best of luck!
